My portrait work is centered around capturing the moods and expressions of my subjects. It is about uncovering the essence of a person’s identity and attitude then snapping an image of that perfect moment. Sometimes it is done in our studio, but most often, I work on location and take the portraits of individuals or groups at a company.
Portraits can range from candids to abstracts, from lifestyle to glamor, from fine art to simple headshots. In my portrait photography I strive for technically perfect composition. While great portraits may seem simple they are often carefully planned and rehearsed. The props, the outfit, the location, the angle of the shot, and the pose are all prepared before the shoot.
To get the most from a portrait session, it is important we discuss these elements prior to the shoot and prepare accordingly. We will discuss the location(s), clothing and makeup options, props, make a checklist of poses for the shoot.
By far, most of my work is for professional business portraits. There are lots of great reference articles on the subject, so typically I just send a link like this one – How to Prepare for a Professional Business Portrait which includes all kinds of tips and suggestions.
We are fortunate to live in an area with a number of great portrait photographers. There are some portrait sessions I will refer to others which include babies, children and animals.
If you want formal shots, you are welcome to come to our studio in The Woodlands, or we have a portable studio we can set up at your locations. For environmental portraits, just about any location will do.
Please give me a call for your next individual or group portrait – I welcome a chance to work with you.
